Newcastle Hebrew Congregation

The Newcastle Synagogue was established in 1927 and is one of the few functioning synagogues in Australia outside a metropolitan area. It is located in the centre of the city of Newcastle at 122 Tyrrell Street; about 200 metres from the City Hall. Orthodox services are held at 6.30 pm Fridays and 9.00am Saturdays, as well as on Purim, Passover, Channukah, and the High Holy Days. The communal seder on the first night of Pesach is always well attended, not only by members of the Congregation, but also by some non-Jewish people who wish to demonstrate their support of Judaism.

Prospective new members and visitors are warmly welcomed.
